Catching the Spirit Youth Society

Outdoor Experiences for Youth

Our Programs

The Spirit Steward Program

The Spirit Steward Program operates Friday to Sunday throughout July and August and are delivered at three locations each weekend.  We offer camp programs in four Metro Vancouver Regional Parks: Burnaby Lake, Pacific Spirit, Tynehead and Capilano River. CTS youth camp overnight and divide their time between leadership, environmental stewardship, jumping into nature, team building and outdoor recreation. Camping in tents (or dorms), cooking meals over Coleman stoves, and sharing stories at evening camp fires round out weekends to make them all the more memorable. It's all led by our Peer Leaders with Supervisors present to mentor and inspire. The best part? It's all free!

The Spirit Ranger Program

The CTS Spirit Ranger program has been cancelled for 2017.  We are currently developing a new program for 2018!

The Fall + Winter Program

The Fall + Winter Program helps keep youth momentum strong throughout the year and takes shape via:

  1. Monthly events in stewardship (like creek work in Burnaby), community involvement (like helping out at the Surrey Urban Mission) and outdoor recreation;
  2. the CTS Youth Council

We love the Fall + Winter Program - it allows us to diversify CTS programming and offer new opportunities on a moment's notice.

The Folks That Make it Happen

Youth participants. Youth aged 12 to 18 from all backgrounds. They get actively involved, share ideas, have fun and work to make a difference within their communities and regional parks.

Youth Peer Leaders Youth aged 15 to 18 and the leaders of the program. They run the show, deliver programming and work hard to show  participants a good time.

Supervisors Aged 19 to 30 and the talented adult supervision behind it all. They mentor, provide a helping hand and ensure a fun and safe environment. And yes, they partake too!

Community partner organizations. A variety of park stewardship groups and community organizations that CTS works with throughout the year. Like the folks listed above, they too are invaluable to the program.
